What Shrink Wraps Better – Heat Gun or Hair Dryer?

December 31, 2008 | Filed Under Products/Supplies | 4 Comments

When asked in my gift basket classes, “Does a hair dryer work as good on shrink wrap as a heat gun?” now I know how to respond because of this video experiment comparing the two items. I was surprised by the results, but perhaps you won’t be. See it for yourself.

Why Shrink Wrap Instead of Cellophane Wrap?

When I began making gift baskets in 1990, I chose cellophane wrap for all of my designs because I wasn’t ready to invest in shrink wrapping equipment.

Today, it’s important to be ready to apply all types of wrapping materials around completed designs, as customers will request different styles. You’ll also require different wraps according to the themes you make.

Shipping requirements dictate that shrink wrap is added around most, if not all, gift baskets, to protect it during travel. Some designers also add cellophane outside of the shrink wrap to provide a soft appearance around the inside protection.

If you use a hair dryer to shrink wrap, how effective is this technique for you, and how realistic is the above video compared to your results?

Get Well Gift Basket

December 30, 2008 | Filed Under Everyday Baskets | Comments Off

A person who’s recovering from a short sickness or long illness gets better quickly when receiving your get well wishes wrapped in a pretty package. Isn’t the same true when a gift basket arrives for you?

This video stresses the importance of giving to encourage feeling good.

What’s In a Get Well Gift Basket?

Before creating this special gift, consider the following:

1. What’s the receiver’s preferences (choose items that they like rather than what you like)
2. What dietary restrictions must this person follow during recuperation?

The last thing you want to do is add foods and snacks that put the person back in harm’s way. This is why thinking about the person’s well being, as you select products, is very important.

Here’s a list of items that encourage a speedy recovery.

  • Soups (canned or dry)
  • Puzzles and other games
  • Books (poems, paperback, how to, fiction)
  • Room spray with favorite fragrance
  • Assorted teas and accessories (tea cup/saucer, tea spoons, sugar cubes)
  • Cookies (shortbread, oatmeal raisin)
  • Handkerchiefs, tissues, hand sanitizer
  • What’s the most-memorable gift you received or gave to another person to encourage a return to good health?
