There was a time when wholesalers’ low prices always beat retail prices, and that model made sense.
However, now that specialty retailers buy certain products that are attractive in gift baskets, their prices can sometimes be better than what you find at wholesale outlets, especially when the items you want are discounted for quick sales.
I found this to be true at one of my favorite retail stores.
Buying from wholesalers is still the norm in the gift basket industry, but it’s also wise to keep your eyes open for bargains in the retail world.
Watch the video for a lesson I learned about buying from retailers and wholesalers.
There’s an expectation in the gift basket industry that goes like this:
I expect customers to schedule appointments to see my gift baskets at times that coincide with my full-time job.
I expect to ask my supervisor for an extra hour off during lunch for personal reasons, and that reason is to deliver a customer’s gift basket.
I expect no one to meet with me before 9:00 am or after 5:00 pm, so I’ll always have to take time away from my family or the job to build my business.
Is this what your mind tells you?
Unfortunately, you’ve made up your mind to not ask customers to be flexible when flexibility is what you need most in the transition time between working for someone else and working for yourself, and according to designers who’ve dealt with this situation in the past, your mind can be 100 percent wrong.
That’s the message I share with you in the above video.
The good news is that customers will meet with you and allow you to deliver gift baskets at times that are not between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, and all you have to do to confirm this is ask.
